मन्त्र-विज्ञान — Mantra Sound Science

Vedic Accent, Bija Mantras & the Science of Sacred Sound

Mantra is not mere words but precise sound vibration. The Vedic science of mantra encompasses accent (svara), seed sounds (bija), and the spontaneous breath mantra (So-Ham) that the body chants 21,600 times each day.

Vedic Svaras — Three Pitch Accents

Unlike classical music's 7 swaras, Vedic recitation uses three pitch accents that determine the correct pronunciation and potency of Vedic mantras.

Why Accent Matters: A wrongly accented Vedic word can reverse the meaning. The classical example: "indra-śatru" can mean "Indra is the killer" (ā + udātta on śatru) or "Indra is killed" (udātta on indra) — a difference of one accent that once led to a demon's destruction (Taittirīya Saṃhitā story of Tvaṣṭṛ).

Bija Mantras — Seed Sounds

Bija (seed) mantras are monosyllabic or single-word sounds that carry concentrated vibrational energy. Each corresponds to a deity, chakra, and element.

So-Ham — The Breath as Mantra

The Tantric tradition teaches that every human being spontaneously chants "So-Ham" 21,600 times a day through the natural rhythm of breath, without conscious effort.
