🔱 Shaiva Tilak

Sacred marks of the Shaiva tradition — from Tripundra to regional Shaivite marks

Shaiva tilaks are sacred marks worn by devotees of Lord Shiva. The most famous is the Tripundra — three horizontal lines of sacred ash (vibhuti/bhasma) that represent the three Shaktis, three Gunas, and three fires. Shaiva marks are typically drawn horizontally, in contrast to the vertical marks of Vaishnavas.
