🧘 HOW TO PRACTICE MUDRAS
A Beginner's Guide to Mudra Practice
GENERAL PRINCIPLES
- •Wash hands before practice — mudras are sacred gestures
- •Practice with intention — know the meaning before forming the gesture
- •Gentle pressure — fingers should touch but not strain
- •Yoga mudras: practice 5–45 minutes; puja mudras: form and release
- •Best times: early morning (brahma muhurta), during puja, during meditation
- •Hasta mudras for dance: practice daily with a mirror to check form
6-STEP BEGINNER SEQUENCE
Both palms together at chest. This is the universal greeting, prayer, and centering gesture. Hold for 1–2 minutes while breathing deeply.
Index finger touches thumb tip, other fingers extended. Rest hands on knees, palms up. Practice during morning meditation for 5–10 minutes.
Right hand raised, palm facing forward. Stand or sit and hold for 30 seconds, feeling the energy of protection and fearlessness.
All four fingers extended and joined, thumb bent across palm. This foundational hasta has 30+ uses — learn 5 viniyoga per week.
For yoga mudras: inhale as you form the mudra, hold breath while maintaining, release as you release the mudra. This synchronizes prana.
During daily puja, incorporate Pushpanjali (offering flowers), Dhenu (purifying offerings), and Namaskara. Do each deliberately, not mechanically.
